Children are introduced to diverse food experiences and cultural connections. Mexican Fiesta and Let the Good Times Roll expose students to new ingredients, flavours, and preparation styles, encouraging curiosity and openness to trying unfamiliar foods.

In Sprinkles and Shades, children experiment with colour mixing, decorating, and visual presentation, linking cooking to early science and creative arts. Cookie Jar reinforces these skills through shaping, design, and personal expression.

Early numeracy and literacy skills continue to develop as children follow more detailed steps, measure with increasing accuracy, and engage in discussions about processes, textures, and outcomes. Children also begin to problem-solve, make simple decisions, and adapt their approach with guidance.

Socially, students build confidence working more independently while still collaborating with peers, sharing resources, and participating in group routines. They are encouraged to take pride in their creations and develop a stronger sense of capability in the kitchen.

Real-world connections are a strong focus.

In Cafe and Tea Party, children engage in role play and social scenarios, exploring food presentation, simple menu concepts, and the experience of preparing and serving food for others. This supports both communication skills and an understanding of everyday food environments.

Children also explore where food comes from and how it is produced. In Say Cheese and Honey and the Bees, they are introduced to basic food origins and processes, building early awareness of production, sustainability, and the natural world.

Cloudy with a Chance of Dumplings extends both cooking and science learning. Children independently mix their own fillings and practice precise folding and pressing techniques, further strengthening fine motor control.

This lesson also introduces simple science concepts such as weather, steam, and condensation, linking cooking processes to real-world phenomena in an engaging and memorable way.

Numeracy and literacy skills continue to develop as children follow more complex sequences, measure with increased accuracy, and describe processes and outcomes using richer vocabulary.

Problem solving and decision making are encouraged as children adjust techniques and take greater responsibility for their creations.

By the end of Module 3, children are confident creators who can apply their skills with greater independence, think more deeply about food and its origins, and make connections between cooking, science, and everyday life thus preparing them for the final stage of mastery.

“MASTERING” TERM

Programmed Lessons: Breakfast Time, Faster Pasta, Bake Sale, Berry Balanced, My Masterpiece.

Module 4 represents the culmination of the program, where children bring together their skills, knowledge, and confidence to work with increasing independence, purpose, and precision.

Through Breakfast Time, Faster Pasta, Bake Sale, Berry Balanced, and My Masterpiece Meal, children refine their techniques while taking ownership of the full cooking process, from preparation through to presentation.

A key focus of this module is sequencing and independent thinking. Children learn that both food and cooking follow a logical order of steps.

In Faster Pasta, they explore how ingredients are created and transformed, beginning with understanding how wheat is processed into flour, which is then combined to form dough and shaped into pasta. They follow and apply a clear sequence: mixing, rolling, cutting, cooking, and adding sauce thus developing their ability to plan, organise, and execute multi-step processes.

Children extend this understanding by designing their own simple sauces, making choices about ingredients and learning that even creativity follows a sequence: building a base, adding ingredients, and combining flavours.

This strengthens decision making, problem solving, and confidence in their own ideas.

Across the module, children demonstrate increased independence as they plan, prepare, and assemble recipes with minimal support.

In Breakfast Time, they explore simple, everyday food preparation, reinforcing practical life skills and building confidence in making their own meals at home.

Bake Sale introduces purpose driven cooking, where children prepare food to share with others. This supports planning, organisation, and an understanding of audience, while fostering pride and responsibility.

In Berry Balanced, children independently measure, cut, and prepare a chocolate mug cake alongside a fresh berry fruit salad, reinforcing concepts of balance while strengthening independence, confidence, accuracy and control.

The module culminates in My Masterpiece Meal, a capstone experience where children independently create a three-part meal: a drink, a hot food item, and a dessert.

They select ingredients, sequence their tasks (preparing a smoothie, assembling a main, and creating a dessert), and apply a wide range of skills including measuring, cutting, mixing, spreading, layering, and presenting their food. This experience emphasises planning, independence, creativity, and reflection, as children recognise and celebrate the skills they have developed across the program.

Throughout Module 4, children demonstrate advanced fine motor control, improved accuracy, and strong problem-solving abilities. Literacy and numeracy are embedded through following multi-step instructions, working with quantities, and communicating processes and outcomes.

Socially and emotionally, children show increased confidence, resilience, and independence. They take responsibility for their work, collaborate effectively, and express pride in their achievements.

By the end of Module 4, children are capable, confident young cooks who can follow and create processes, make informed choices, and apply their skills in real-life contexts with independence and creativity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is my really long review 😊!
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing an incursion led by Jo from Bakers Kids, and let me just say, it was an absolute blast!

From start to finish, Jo's level of preparation and organization was impeccable. It was evident that she put a tremendous amount of effort into planning every aspect of the program, ensuring that it was not only educational but also incredibly engaging for the children.

What truly stood out to me was Jo's ability to keep the kids fully immersed and entertained throughout the entire incursion.
From the moment she began, it was clear that she had a natural knack for capturing their attention and keeping them excited about learning.
Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and it was wonderful to see how responsive and involved the children were under her guidance.

One of the things that impressed me the most was Jo's effective strategies for managing behaviour.
Despite the inevitable challenges that come with working with a group of children, she handled everything with such grace and calmness.
Her approach was both firm and gentle, and it was evident that she had a genuine connection with each child, which made them feel valued and respected.

But perhaps the most important thing of all was the sheer amount of fun the kids had during the incursion.

Jo managed to strike the perfect balance between learning and enjoyment, and it was heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces as they participated in the activities she had planned.

Overall, I cannot recommend Jo from Bakers Kids highly enough. Her passion for what she does shines through in every aspect of her work, and the impact she has on the children is truly remarkable. If you're looking for someone who is not only prepared and organized but also incredibly skilled at engaging and inspiring young minds, Jo is without a doubt the perfect choice.

My son absolutely loved his classes with Jo. He’d loved the making and learning side and would proudly bring home his cooking every week and talk about Jo and how nice she was and what he’d learned. The classes seemed really easy to understand and the handouts that come home are fantastic. Allergies are completely taken care of with the upmost care. An easy 5/5 stars. Thank you Jo.
